Ptnml
Ptnml is short for pentanomial.
An ordinary test looks at three outcomes: win, draw and loss.
Ptnml has five outcomes:
- Two wins
- One win and one draw
- One win and one loss, or two draws
- One loss and one draw
- Two losses
Ptnml requires both sides to play both colors in every opening. For example, if one side beats the other both as Red and as Black in the same opening, that side has scored two wins, counted as 1 occurrence.
A Ptnml tie means that in the same opening the two sides got one win and one loss each, or two draws. Ptnml is very valuable data in paired-game testing with unbalanced openings.
